PayPal co-founder Max Levchin is leaving Google. Slide founder and CEO Levchin’s decision has come quite surprisingly. Google bought his social media company Slide just an year before and now as he is leaving, Google has plans to shutter almost all of the Slide’s applications.
“Max has decided to leave Slide and Google to pursue other opportunities, and we wish him the best,” a Google spokeswoman said via e-mail. “Most of the team from Slide will remain at Google to work on other opportunities.”
Google recently entered into social networking with Google+ . But neither Levchin had public role in it’s launch nor his role in it’s creation is quite clear. Also Photovine would have been integrated with Google+, but it didn’t happen. All these incidents may be interpreted as signs of some disappointments and disagreements amongst the group but no clearly visible reasons.
“We created products with the goal of providing a fun way for people to connect, communicate and share,” the company said. “While we are incredibly grateful to our users and for all of the wonderful feedback over the years, many of these products are no longer as active or haven’t caught on as we originally hoped.”
A note on the Slide Website disclosed the same information regarding the closure of some applications as Slideshow, Video Inbox, Pool Party, SuperPoke!Pets and most surprisingly Photovine, a picture sharing service launched by the company just last week. is the one amongst the few applications which will remain alive, it’s an application which connects people who are seeking help to those who can offer a solution to them for cash.
2 days and 2 resignations, reason is not surely the same for both. Let’s wait and watch which new combination this industry brings to us.
